Solution To Problem Of The Day 2004-07-27

White crashes into Black's king side with his rook while Black's heavy pieces act as mere spectators.

1. Rxf7!! Kxf7 (1...Kh6 2. Qh3+ Kg5 3. Qg3+ Kh6 4. Qh4#) 2. Bc4+ and now the Black king gets mated no matter which way he goes:

2...Kf8 3. Nxg6+ hxg6 4. Qf7#
2...Kg7 3. Nf5+ Kf6 4. Qe7+ Kxf5 5. Qe5+ Kg4 6. Be6+ Kh4 7. g3#
2...Kf6 3. Qe6+ Kg7 4. Qe5+ Kh6 5. Nf5+ gxf5 6. Qf6+ Kh5 7. Qxf5+ Kh6 8. Qf6+ Kh5 9. Bf7+ Kg4 10. Be6+ Kh5 11. g4#
